Workshop on `Carbon Nanotubes for Electronic Applications`
Bologna - 24-25 maggio 2007

CNR - Area di ricerca di Bologna - 24-25 maggio 2007 This workshop aims to highlight the state of art on carbon nanotubes research activities for electronic applications and the perspectives of the Italian research groups active in such area. The required multidisciplinary approach pushes to define a shared strategy dealing with future challenging opportunities associated with the use of CNT in this prominent field of application. In this framework, the workshop offers the opportunity to identify synergies and to promote a more robust cooperation and coordination among the different research groups. Moreover, the just started FP7 could be used as driving force for implementing the strategy, giving opportunities to the Italian research community to present new ideas, new cooperating initiatives both at National and at International levels. 3rd CHIRALTEM workshop
Trieste 31st May -1st June

Bringing together two communities: magnetic dichroism by electrons and photons X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) is a powerful and well-established method to study the magnetic properties of the materials based on the use of circularly polarized photons in a synchrotron. The CHIRALTEM collaboration (www.chiraltem.physics.at) has recently demonstrated, contrary to common belief, that circular dichroism can be measured with EELS in a TEM. This new approach, called electron magnetic chiral dichroism (EMCD), paves the way to the study of site and element specific magnetic moments in the TEM with the highest spatial resolution. The workshop is the first event to merge the XMCD and the EMCD communities and has the aim to understand the relevant points of contact, the possible synergies and to look for a common vocabulary. The workshop is divided in three consecutive sessions: one dedicated to experimental EMCD, the second to experimental XMCD and a third to the theoretical approaches to understand and quantify EMCD and XMCD spectra. A round table on the future perspectives of EMCD and on the possible synergies will conclude the workshop.

XIX INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM of MORPHOLOGICAL SCIENCES
BUDAPEST 2007 : Agosto 19-24

Today the anatomical sciences are more crucial for the rapidly developing clinical sciences - diagnostics and therapy - than ever before. The new advances in other biological sciences - like molecular cell biology and genetic - has been used in anatomy, histology, neuroanatomy and embryology to understand the structure, function and diseases of the living organism. Anatomy is the most ancient biomedical teaching and research field, which covers the structure from the microscopic level to the gross anatomy. During the last 50 years the biomedical research and teaching specialized for different topics, which accumulated tremendous knowledge, enriching the anatomical sciences as well. The Organizing Committee invites every researcher to use this opportunity to present original work or review a biomedical research area. The XIX ISMS will be organized in plenary lectures, symposia and poster presentations: The following are the major symposia organized: Adipocyte – and obesity Anatomical forms, variations and function Clinical anatomy Connective tissue, cartilage, bone Cytoskeleton Electron microscopy and confocal images as a 21st century tools of morphological sciences Extracellular matrix Fibroblast –myofibroblast- tissue repair Gastrointestinal tract, development and anatomy History of the morphological sciences Lymphomyeloid system, mononuclear system, dendritic cell Neurobiology and neuroendocrinology Reproductive system development and anatomy Respiratory system, development and anatomy Sensory organs, development and anatomy Stem cell biology in organogenesis and regeneration Teaching, learning and testing in the anatomy sciences Transgenic and knockout models in developmental biology Urinary system development and anatomy Vasculogenesis; endothelial cell biology, pericyte
