FUN-M-ARC
National Research Council, Bologna, Italy, May 5th-7th 2010

FUNCTIONAL MULTISCALE ARCHITECTURES The SONS II (Self organized nanostructures) program has involved, since 2005, 51 research groups from 15 countries all across Europe, with a total budget of almost 8 Mil. Euros, fostering collaborative research, networking and dissemination of scientific results. The FUNMARCH workshop aims to provide an overview of SONS II accomplishments, and at the same time an outlook on the future of European collaborative research in the fields of supramolecular chemistry, nanotechnology and materials science. To this end, experts from the European Science Foundation (Strasbourg) and the European Research Council (Bruxelles) will share ideas with top-level scientists from all Europe about the most promising developments of this field, and the research funding opportunities already available or yet to come.

Past, present and future of (S)TEM and its applications
Paris at the CNRS headquarters from June 9th to June 11th 2010

A tribute to the work of Christian Colliex Christian Colliex is one of the true pioneers of the (S)TEM and EELS techniques in electron microscopy. Starting in the 1960s, when these methods were little more than laboratory curiosities, he has been a constant driving force, pushing them to the forefront in the world of micro- and nano-analytical science. This meeting will be a celebration of his contribution to the field and will include presentations by many of the other principal actors in the history of these techniques, including those with whom Christian has closely collaborated down the years. New advances in instrumentation, analysis and interpretation continue to excite and fascinate Christian, and at this meeting all the latest developments and their applications will be described in detail by the people who have brought them into being. In particular, the major improvements in resolution, both spatial (in the last few years) and in spectroscopy (being implemented now) offer possibilities and indeed challenges that were off the radar only a few years ago. In addition, the exciting progress in some related techniques to which Christian has also made a significant contribution will be presented by their leading exponents.

Annual Cryo Microscopy Group meeting 2010
University of Birmingham - 7th November 2010

The Cryo Microscopy Group (CMG) , affiliated to the Royal Microscopical Society, serves to foster interest in low temperature approaches to microscopy and analysis. Cryopreparative methods are being applied increasingly in biological scanning and transmission electron microscopy along with cryo-applications in the materials sciences. There are also emergent and established applications for cryo technology in other microscopies. The CMG annual meeting includes talks on such advances and applications, often by internationally renowned speakers. This is also a forum for communicating technique advances/results by way of posters or short talks and also allows for open discussions (see also link to CMG listserver).
