The 9th edition of the Pier Giorgio Merli Transmission Electron Microscopy School in Materials Science,
jointly organized by SISM and CNR, will be held in January 2027. For two weeks, the School will introduce students and researchers to the basic and
advanced TEM related techniques, through
theoretical lectures and practical demonstrations.
Experts from CNR (Bologna, Modena), Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (Genova, Pontedera), Area Science Park (Trieste), and the Italian community of electron microscopy will lecture participants about the working principles of TEM instrument and detectors, the concepts of electron diffraction, coherent and incoherent imaging, as well as X-ray and Electron Energy-Loss spectroscopy, in-situ experimentation, image simulation and analysis. Practical sessions on SAED, CBED, HREM, HAADF-STEM, EELS, EDS will provide an immersive demonstration of TEM operation.
